Introducing Sense Organs to Preschoolers
Hi, superstar learners! Can you guess what you use every day to understand the world around you? That’s right—your senses! The five senses—seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching—help us explore and enjoy everything around us.
But did you know that your senses come from special helpers called sense organs? Sense organs are the parts of our body that enable us to understand and perceive what’s happening around us.
Let’s discover them one by one!
- Eyes – Sense of Sight
Our eyes are amazing! They help us see the beautiful world. With our eyes, we can spot bright colors, big and small shapes, and cool patterns. What’s the most colorful thing you can see right now? - Nose – Sense of Smell
Take a deep breath in… and out. What do you smell? Maybe the sweet scent of flowers or something yummy baking in the kitchen? Sometimes, we also smell stinky things, like dirty socks—yuck! - Ears – Sense of Hearing
Our ears are always listening. What sounds can you hear right now? Do you hear music, the wind blowing, or maybe a bird singing? Can you make the sound of a barking dog? How about asking someone to whisper in your ear—did you hear it? - Tongue – Sense of Taste
Yum! Our tongue helps us taste food. What’s your favorite food? Do you like sweet ice cream, salty chips, or maybe something sour like lemonade? Have you ever tried something super spicy? That’s your tongue helping you taste all the yummy (or not-so-yummy) flavors! - Skin – Sense of Touch
Your skin helps you feel everything around you. Whether something is soft, rough, warm, or cool, your skin is always working. Do you like soft, fluffy blankets? What about hugs—do you enjoy them? And are you ticklish?
Now that you know all about your five senses, see if you can use them throughout the day. They make exploring the world so much fun!
